Regional opportunities
The BABET-REAL5 project will provide a detailed analysis of the feedstock available in several regions of Europe and Latin America, the conditions for access, and a short list of feedstock for the study and selection of business cases in 4 different countries.
Several regions were identified as major potential producers of lignocellulosic biomass residues. South-Western European regions are characterized by a large variety of potential biomasses mainly residues from the cultivation of cereals and oleaginous plants (wheat, corn, barley, rapeseed, sunflower), the pruning of vineyard and orchards and the de-hulling of seeds for the transformation industry. In France the territories extending from the South-West to the South-East of France will be investigated. In Germany the same goes for the state of Bavaria which is a major producer of cereals in Germany (18% of the national production). In Latin America, several targeted regions will be investigated in Argentina and Uruguay.
The results will be presented for each studied region in a regional GIS (Geographical Information System) where the biomass feedstock and associated transport/logistic/storage infrastructures will be plotted, and for each feedstock a data sheet with the conditions of access and the risk analysis.
