Evaluation of 4 business cases

The evaluation of the business cases will be performed by applying the methodology developed for that purpose. The basic idea will be to further develop the feedstock GIS with additional layers concerning the localisation of the ethanol production units and transport/logistic infrastructures necessary to supply the raw materials and to deliver the end products to the end-users. The most favourable scenario will be studied taking into consideration new parameters and advantageous conditions for the localisation of the production plants. For this purpose, contacts with national energy and field operators, reagents and utilities’ suppliers (i.e. potential stakeholders) will be established to get all the necessary data for the evaluation and feedback about the project. The selection of business cases should be based on two major evaluation criteria:

  1. Quantity of plants and related perspectives of activity, incomes and socio economic benefits at short and long term and
  2. Minimum risks.

The combined evaluation of the parameters “quantity” and “risks” should allow selecting 4 business cases of major interests for the final business study.

The 4 selected business cases will be subject to a detailed techno-economic study whereby all the local conditions (i.e. for civil engineering and the supply of raw materials and equipment) will be taken into consideration in a full engineering study for building a standard plant (for instance 30 000 t dry biomass processing per year). A preliminary business plan will be established for each selected business case integrating the new techno-economic data in a more realistic P&L statement forecast. The results of the business cases will be presented in a dedicated workshop.
